In my last post, I told you about how I was doing the One Week Egg diet, struggling and that when it came to Day Six, we chose to break it for one evening to give us the strength to continue into the last day of the diet. (If you haven't read the post, the diet is hard but worth it). Here is the most amazing stroganoff that my husband makes.
We use Jamie Oliver's recipe as a base for this dish, but as usual make it our own. We paired it with home-made sweet potato fries (recipe still being perfected) this time, but it is also really nice served in home made bread bowls.
This dish is one of those that we keep for cold winter's evenings as it is hearty, warming and satisfying, filling yet not stodgy. The sauce is divine and the meat full of flavour and well cooked. It is also great for washing up as it is all cooked in the same pan and takes very little preparation.
To make this dish you will need: onion (we like red best), garlic, beef (or any strong flavoured meat) seasoned with salt, pepper and paprika, mushrooms (we use exotic, wild mushrooms), brandy, lemon zest and juice, parsley and crème fraiche (can be substituted with milk).

Onion and garlic browned in the pan, remove and replace with mushrooms, add seasoned meat then cook all together with lemon, brandy, crème fraiche and parsley. Then serve. Then take credit for being so amazing. For full step by step instructions, see Jamie's recipe, only double the ingredients (for six servings), double the garlic, use beef rather than venison, loosely tear the parsley, and add lemon juice as well as the zest.
